Diamondpelt came to an abrupt stop beside the maple tree. His breathing was normal despite his sprint to the Camp.
As he curled his tale around his front paws, he sighed and watched the cats filing into the space around him. What were they saying? Obviously something interesting had happened at the Gathering. Froststar had probably been up to her stupid tricks.
Diamondpelt tried to glimpse the Leader but she was nowhere in site. He could see his enemy, StrongClaw, though and so he scowled in the huge tom's direction.
A moment later: Oh no, he thought to himself. The Deputy was walking towards him.

Strongclaw had noted the stupid Warrior as soon as he entered the Camp. He had also noted Diamondpelt's expression.
Now, as he stalked towards the insollent cat he held the minor's eyes to his. He scowled furiously back.
When he was a few steps away he spoke a single word in a growling voice, "Diamonpelt."

Froststar entered the camp from the opposite direction remembering how she had taken a different route to the camp and seen Diamondpelt come from the Ice Cave, where he had been forbidden to go. She smiled to herself, Strongclaw was already dealing with him. She would keep the Ice Cave secret to herself until that day when she could pull him up for everything he had ever done...

Sighing she walked over to her den, she would talk to Strongclaw in the morning...

Diamondpelt had glimpsed Froststar, but did not acknowledge her. He looked Strongclaw directly in the eyes and scowled fiercely back at the Deputy. "Oh look who it is," he mewed in a very daring way, "The slave." Strongclaw was a mere meter away and his eyes narrowed so that they might have been slits like a snake's. For a few moments they just stared at each other in deathly silence. Some day I'll slit your throat, they were both thinking about the other.

Diamond plonked himself on the ground and sighed. It was a sigh to indicate that he didn't give a d**n about the tense situation. "So," he said lazily, "Tell me, Slave, what was the almighty Gathering like? The Mouse-brain, who calls herself our Leader, do anything interesting?" He smirked at the look of total fury on Strongclaw's face. It was not often that Diamondpelt insulted Froststar outloud, but when he did, he chose the moment carefully.
"What did you call your Leader?!" the Deputy spat between his teeth, spraying Diamond with saliva. Not one tiny flicker of fear showed in the young warriors strong eyes and he replied calmly, "I called her what she is, Deputy; Mouse-brained." "Don't think you'll get away with it." Now Strongclaw's voice sounded like the venom of a snake. But Diamonpelt matched the hatred in his own look.
Then, before either of them really knew what they were doing, both toms sprang to life, coming to stand directly in front of each other. Strongclaw raised one gigantic paw, his claws unsheathed, and brought it swinging through the air towards Diamond's face. But the Warrior was far too quick. He promptly dodged the claws and ducked to the side. Then, quick as a flash, he sunk his teeth into the shoulder of his superior. Strongclaw yowled so loudly that the rest of the Clan must have heard. He rose onto his back legs, and came down onto Diamondpelt's back; in a motion like a rearing horse. It was surely the Warrior's turn to cry out, but he remained silent, clenching his teeth. He felt the claws rip through his flesh before the evil Deputy sprang off him.
"One day you'll come to a sticky end," Strongclaw panted. "One day soon." He turned around and made to walk away; Diamondpelt wouldn't stop him. "Oh," he paused again, "And don't think Froststar won't hear about this." He grinned in a cruel way and then raced off towards the Leader's Den.

After a few moments Diamndpelt sighed and decided to take a few deep breaths. He needed to calm himself; calm the pure hatred and anger which he felt flowing through his whole self.
When he was certain that he wasn't about to strike the next cat he met, he knew that he had to go and see Morningscar. The gashes on his back were deep and the pain was pretty bad. Not TOO BAD, but bad enough to make him grit his teeth. He was resilient.
Slowly he set off towards the Medicine Cat's Den. He wasn't happy about it, but he did have sense.
