Deepsoul was worried. She was worried about all the Leaders. She was worried what Froststar would do next. She was worried about the way the Gathering had just ended. She was worried about the future of the forest she had grown to love.
The forest was her true home; it was where she had found peace at last. And she didn't want that peace to ever go away.
Now, under the stars, with the next day drawing ever nearer, she rested her head in her paws and closed her eyes. Oh Great StarClan, send me a sign. What is to be our fate? What is to happen next? She breathed in deeply and fell into a sleep which she prayed would bring her answers.

Yes, she dreamed. But not the dreams she wished for. Dreams of hate. Of a time she tried to forget, but which was never far from her thoughts.
Her blood ran over her eyes and she could see nothing but the inky red. They kept throwing the bottles. They were hurting her. They were laughing. Screaming. Oh they made so much noise! Her head rang and she tried to scramble away. Her tiny, tired and wounded legs could not carry her far.
Then their hands were on her. Squeezing her neck. She yowled and bit the hands, but they wouldn't let go. They were hurting her. The pain was so horrible! Then they let go and for a second, she felt relief. But not for long.
Splash!
It was so cold! So very cold! And she kept going down. Down into the icy depths of strangling blue water. She felt her lungs filling. But she could do nothing. Blackness was ever so close. She wished it would take her. Her limbs ached like nothing she'd ever felt before. Her head felt like it was being squashed. Her chest... She just wanted it all to end. For her to explode. Please let me die, she thought, please let me die...
Deepsoul awoke suddenly, tears streaming down her face and shoulders, and chest. The ground before her was wet with them and they wouldn't stop. "Let me die," she repeated, even though the world around her was coming into focus. "Let me die. Please. Please..." She sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. There was a lump in her throat and she felt like choking. Slowly she curled into a tight ball, continuing to cry, waiting for the demons to leave her...

But they wouldn't leave her. She waited for almost an hour, yet the demons still would not leave her. And the tears kept falling. Falling and falling and falling. With the tears, she felt herself falling. Falling and falling and falling. Down into the icy water of her past. Down into the deepest parts of her mind. And the pain wouldn't leave. Deepsoul began to rock back and forth. Shuddering and shivering. And not from the cold...

After a while the rocking ceased and everything except the flowing stream seemed to become utterly still. Nothing stirred even in the slightest. Deepsould sat upright with her tail rapped firmly around her paws. She stared straight ahead and did not blink. For a bit at least, she would be able to force her thoughts to be silent; her memories to be calm.
