Sweetheart plunged into the shimmering, cool water, feeling sweet refreshment. She closed her eyes and smiled to herself. This is the life, she thought calmly to herself...
Her eyes suddenly snapped open and she swam back to the bank to get out of the water. Uncharacteristically, she felt sad. "Only this isn't life," she whispered. "This is death."

Oh, what would she give for one more day with her old friends? Anything. That was the answer: anything.

"Only this isn't life," "This is death."
"Do you wish you could go back to the life you had before? With your friends?" The blazing-furred tom sat on the bank. His pelt glowing gloriously in the moonlight. He was like a sun in the dark. His orange optics stared at Sweetheart. His long-furred tail curled around his paws.

Sweetheart jumped as she heard Blazingstar's voice. Then she sighed and looked down at the glimmering water again. So perfect, so peaceful. Why would she wish to be back in the forest? The feuding, the constant struggles...
"I-" she began, looking at the amazing tom. Then she swallowed. She didn't know what she wanted... "I would love to have the life I lived before. It was perfect, but at the same time, not so." She paused thoughtfully, "It is perfect here too. But something is.... missing. A part of me will never be restored."
Realising she was talking to the leader of her clan she smiled, "I am proud to be of the greatest clan though. "StarClan will never change, will it? It will remain for an eternity and beyond?"

Blazingstar took the time to lick his coat. He looked up at her still awaiting an answer.
"I-" "I would love to have the life I lived before. It was perfect, but at the same time, not so." "It is perfect here too. But something is.... missing. A part of me will never be restored." "I am proud to be of the greatest clan though. "StarClan will never change, will it? It will remain for an eternity and beyond?"
It was slightly amusing to listen to a cat. He ruffled his pelt as he listened to her. "A part of you will never be restored?" he questioned, mostly to himself. "StarClan has never changed, we shall always remain the same. A leaf never changes it shape, its...formation," he meowed softly, "Us cats may have changed, since LionClan, TigerClan, CheetahClan, and LeopardClan use to rule these very forests..and of course the old clans of Thunder, Wind, River, and Shadow. But a cheetah cannot change its spots, nor can a tiger change its stripes." His logic on life was a wise one. He stiffled back a yawn, there was no time for sleep.

Darkpaw lapped up the water slightly upstream from where Blazingstar and Sweetheart were talking, he smiled as he heard their conversation. He looked down into the water and shuddered at his young reflection. None of the other cats judged his opinion as important, considering him to only be as much as he apppeared to be on his exterior, a young cat. The truth however, was considerably different. He had been a member of StarClan for countless moons, had watched from afar as numerous power-hungry cats attempted to rule the forest, yet failed at the end. He had even watched many of the legendary cats who started the 'modern' clans grow up and die. Yes, he was much more than he appeared...
When he had drunk his fill and banished all the thoughts from his mind he stood up and disappeared into the undergrowth....
